Clutter is just one of those unavoidable things. We bring it in, it piles up and for some unknown reason, we hesitate to throw it away. We think we might need it eventually or we get too busy and in no time it\’s a mess. Phase two of accumulating clutter is becoming overwhelmed. This is often the phase we get stuck in and the situation gets worse. There is nothing enjoyable about a cluttered space, it’s stressful and has been known to cause anxiety and depression. Life can be difficult and stressful enough, your home should be a place where you can relax and feel at peace.
The first step in decluttering is to realize that it doesn’t all have to be done at once. Start with a small area that you can tackle in 15 to 20 minutes. This could be the top of your fridge, the kitchen island, or the table. The take away from this is that doing one area in the kitchen instead of the whole kitchen is achievable in a short amount of time. The rewarding feeling is still attained even though the entire room isn’t finished yet. The goal is to do one section in a room at a time and keep it that way. Maintain the lack of clutter of that section and you will enjoy the completed feel and look of it so much that you will be looking forward to finishing the rest of the room. If you are feeling ambitious you can do an entire room at a time and it\’s the same effect of then wanting to do the next room. The big picture here is to keep your goals attainable. Take one small step at a time on your decluttering journey and maintain it. We’ve all heard that it takes 30 days to develop a habit, this is no different. We are learning the habit of organization!
We love to see all of your projects so please share them! Lastly, if you need help we are here to support you along the way. Start loving where you live and enjoying the calm that a decluttered house brings.
