When redesigning your home, it is important to remember that we should not have to change ourselves for the space but change the space to fit ourselves. In other words, a room is useless if it cannot be used comfortably by all who occupy it. Here are a few tips to help you create a living room in which your family and friends can relax.

Always consider the size of your space. You want to provide plenty of seating for your family and guests, but if you put a large sofa in a relatively small room, then there will be limited space to move around, creating discomfiture.

Secondly, if you have hardwood floors, consider adding a rug. This can create a warmer floor when it\’s cold, and a beautiful and cozy design feature, while not wholly obscuring the beautiful wood.

Thirdly, make sure to have plenty of light. Dark rooms aren’t ideal for much more than sleep. Whereas you can always turn off lights or close the drapes in a room with lots of light, you cannot add windows or light fixtures as easily. Air on the side of too much light over too little.

Though these are simple fixes, together they can work wonders to transform your space into a comfortable and enjoyable area for everyone.
